Sperling & Gamble: Making a Case Realizing Great Ontario Wine. Featured in Wine Align May, 2024.
“While talking small, I draw your attention to The Roost, a vineyard and winery on a slope in the upper Beaver Valley of Georgian Bay. Founded by Jessica and Michael Maish, Peter and Ann (Gamble) clicked with their creativity and organic ethos, and signed on to consult on what I think are some of the best hybrid-based wines in the country. The colder winters necessitate hardy hybrids, but these are so well made, and such great value, that one wonders why more hybrids are not at this level…”

Our flagship red grape and Ontario’s newest VQA varietal, Marquette, is getting some beautiful praise. Thank you to David Lawrason for this recent review in Wine Align.
“The Roost is a small property nestled in the Beaver Valley near Georgian Bay region. Marquette is one of the most promising Minnesota winter hardy hybrids, and it is showing good results here. If only others could make it with this delicate sensibility. This is a very fresh, juicy, easy drinking red very mindful of gamay. Expect plummy fruit, lilac florality and a hint of oak spice. Tannins are very fine, the length is very good to excellent. Tasted April 2024.”
